Wanna be different, together?

I just got this note on YouTube the other day, and the story touched me so much that I wanted to share it. This is amazing, and I’m glad that I’m not the only one whose relationship began with a letter. <3

Hey there.

After listening to your song “Great to be Different”, I began to think about some years of my life where I was bullied during all my years from elementary school up to high school. During the last year of elementary school, I got a letter from an unknown person with a heart on it. It was actually a love letter from a girl in class, who was also a victim from being bullied.

The letter said:
“Hello, I admire your courage of carrying on each day with that smile of yours, and slowly began to fall for it, and of course, you.
Just so you know, I’m also being bullied, but I take it harder than you. I feel lonely all the time and I just want to be with somebody that I love and would love me back. So what’cha say, wanna be different, together?”

I walked over to her desk, looked her in the eyes and just said “…yes”. It was a start of a wonderful relationship.

Sadly, it wouldn’t last long.

Six months after we began dating, she suffered a heart attack and died before she even got to the hospital..

Now it’s been 5 years since her death, times are for the better now. Why? She told me that it’s great to be different, and I’ve always gone by that.
Today I’m wealthy, got a great life and I am for the most part, happy.

After hearing your song, it rekindled the thoughts of her, our time together and what she told me about being different.

I don’t know if you’ll read this or not, but I just wanted to tell you this, and you’ll see that your songs makes people feel good about themself. Keep on doing a great job!

You are a very strong person to be saying this. I have no clue how this experience must of felt because I have never had anything like that happen to me or anyone that I know. This actually made me cry but also happy that you recovered your life, moved on and became successful. I give out my heart to you.

    Sad story indeed…

Personally, I also lost a girlfriend so I can understand the pain… We never mention about being different together but surely she was quite the target for people… But sadly, I got an email one day that she had died in a car accident… And I wasn’t even invited to the funeral… Just got the email and had to live on… But like you, I’ve manage to pick myself up, eventually, and move on with my life! So, I wish I could shake your hand right now just for making it!
