So it’s been a little while now since the news of Robin Williams death. As you have probably heard his death was due to an apparent suicide. Robin Williams had been dealing with severe depression starting around 2009. It was also later revealed that he was dealing with the early stages of Parkinson’s disease. All of this news is incredibly heart breaking. A man who brought so much joy and love into people’s life ended his in despair. I think it shows that no one is immune.
Over the course of the existence of this website many have sent in letters detailing times of great sadness and attempts of suicide. Robin Williams may have lost his battle, but the war is not over. Robin Williams was a legend in acting and comedy, and legends never die. I believe Robin has helped open our eyes, and perhaps made us more vigilant. The signs of depression are not always so apparent. And I believe that the best possible way to fight it is to do as Robin would. Bring joy and laughter into the life of others. Smile at your neighbors and friends, give appropriate compliments to strangers, and– most important of all– smile yourself. Find what makes you happiest in life, cherish it, and share it with others.
Life is the most precious thing we have. We only have one life, and while the trails may be dark or seem impossible to pass, together we can all make life a little more bright, and help others to the fields ahead.
